Calls for Unity
FDR had this to say about any possibility of a negotiated settlement with Nazi Germany:
Two words that defined President Roosevelt’s pledge that “…the American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory.” Two words that would set an almost impossible target for the greatest military force the world has ever known – “Unconditional Surrender.” Casablanca Conference
The Threat of Violence
The threat of violence exists and the GOP has made sure to reference it while making their calls for unity. These are credible threats as evidenced by the recent insurrection. However, these are not recent threats. While recently the threats are directed at Congress and the nation as a whole, the GOP has been operating under duress for quite some time now.
Kim Ward, the Republican majority leader of the Pennsylvania Senate, said the president had called her to declare there was fraud in the voting. She also said that the threat of violence was so strong from the Republican base that getting her house bombed was a surety if she said aloud she would not heed them. Trip Gabriel, New York Times.
Georgia election official, Gabriel Sterling warned that people would get killed if the calls for violence didn't stop. Watch the video:
They rightfully fear for their lives. We must as a nation rise up to condemn this domestic terrorism. We must root out the sedition.
See https://www.socharacter.com/post/the-moral-crime . The Moral Crime details how the "lie" pervaded the Trump Campaign and Presidency. Make no mistake, the actions described therein were the seeds of sedition.
See https://www.socharacter.com/post/trump-treason-insurrection-sedition-subversion-18-usc-2387-news-military-pardons . This article details the sophistry of Trump's criminality which led the buildup to insurrection.
Trump did create a separate "state" or "party" dedicated to Trumpism and disciplined with the fear and/or love of violence. They did infiltrate and coerce the Republican Party. He did tell them to "stand back and stand by." He gathered them at the capital. They did wage war on the United States with armed violent force.. They did make of themselves "enemies" of the United States and did give aid and comfort to one another. That is Treason 101. They did cross that threshold defined by International Treaty and United States Code in regard to what can be called "war." They have met the qualifications for being defined by International Treaty and United States Code in regard to what can be called "enemies."
That the Impeachment Article on trial in the Senate only lists "Incitement of Insurrection" is not only a compromise, it a great and gigantic compromise. It is a call for unity that must be accepted lest "unconditional surrender" become the watchword of the day.
18 U.S. Code § 2381 - Treason - Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.
